Hockey fans, I know this is Boston Bruins country, but when else will you get a chance to see NHL Hall of Famers, a team who has won 31 Stanley Cups amongst them, and see two players, Guy LaFleur and Larry Robinson, both ranked in the Top 25 of The Hockey News’ Top 100 Greatest NHL Players of All-Time.
On Sunday, October 11, 2009, at 2pm the Cumberland County Civic Center will host a great charity hockey event between the Montreal Canadiens Alumni Team and the Bath Iron Works Ironclad Hockey Team.

Again, you’ll witness some hockey greats including; Guy LaFleur, Larry Robinson, Steve Shutt, Normand Dupont, Yvon Lambert, Patrice Brisebois, Sergio Momesso, Serge Boisvert, Gilbert Dionne, Donald Audette, Lucien Deblois, Richard Sevigny, Gilbert DeLorme, Gaston Gingras, and Karl Dykhuis.

On Sunday, September 27, from 2-6pm, former Red Sox pitching legend, Luis Tiant will make an appearance at Seagars by the Sea, a gathering of cigar aficionados near the Old Port waterfront at 25 Long Wharf in front of DiMillo’s Floating Restaurant. The event is the inaugural Maine Fundraiser for Home For Our Troops, a national non-profit which raises funds for the construction and remodeling of homes for severely disabled war veterans.
I understand that Luis Tiant will be offering autographed baseballs and cigar boxes for an auction at the event, as we know he is a longtime fan of a great cigar. Tickets to the event are $50, and guests will be able to try cigars from all cigar retailers. Tickets can be purchased by calling 207-772-9463, and also are available at participating retail locations, including Old Port Wine Merchants, Freeport Trading, DAD’s Cigar Parlor, Cigar and Smoke Shoppe, and Calabash. Enjoy a stogie for me!
Today the Maine Red Claws announced a partnership with UNUM to deliver tickets to local children and provide them with the opportunity to see all of the Maine Red Claws home games in Portland. Through the UNUM Shooting Stars program, 75 tickets per game will be distributed to area schools and non-profit organizations to attend the basketball games.
Hats off to the Maine Red Claws and UNUM for continuing to show their support of the local community and providing opportunities to children.
Pick-A-Seat Day – The Maine Red Claws are also pleased to announce a very interesting promotional experience for their fans through the Pick-A-Seat Day. On Saturday, July 11, from 11am to 3pm at the Portland Expo, fans will get a sneak peek at the new parquet floor, while season ticket holders will be able to check out their new seats for the upcoming 2009-2010 season. The Maine Red Claws will also allow fans who have not yet purchased season tickets to “try it before you buy it” and hopefully convince some more fans to join the fun and excitement of being a season ticket holder. Now for the best part…among the fun and games that will take place Saturday, fans will have the opportunity to sink a half court shot to win a Red Claws season ticket. A great promotional idea…we’ll likely see a few winners there (unless the ball is weighed or there is some other trick like a blindfold).
Further, on Thursday, July 23, season ticket holders will have the chance to attend the premier of nationally recognized sports broadcaster Dick Enberg’s one-man play “McGuire” at the Portland Stage Company and attend a post-show cocktail party hosted by the famous guest of the Maine Red Claws.
With all of the pre-season excitement surrounding the Red Claws the 2009-2010 inaugural season should be memorable. Keep your eyes here for future events, opportunities, and appearances related to the Maine Red Claws.
Enjoy!!
