Maine Red Claws Victorious again before Sellout Crowds

The Maine Red Claws continue their winning ways in Portland as they moved to 10-3 overall (2nd in the East Conference) with two wins at home this week before sellout crowds at the Portland Expo. Thursday afternoon, the Red Claws led by Darnell Lazare’s 17 points bested the East Conference leader Iowa Energy 95-88. The energy was high, as both teams raced up and down the court throughout the game and dished out a number of impressive fast breaks and dunks for the fans.

Fans were not to be disappointed with Friday’s show either, as the Maine Red Claws had five players in double figures and outdistanced the Erie Bayhawks 94-86. Alexi Ajinca (property of the Charlotte Bobcats) led the way for the Red Claws with 19 points, 14 rebounds, and 5 blocks.

Next the Red Claws will participate in the 2010 NBA D-League Showcase January 4-7th in Boise, Idaho, where they will face the Los Angeles D-Fenders and the Sioux Falls Skyforce. The Showcase offers all 16 NBA D-League teams the opportunity to play two games in front of NBA scouts, general managers, and front-office personnel. According to the NBA Development League website, “last season 11 different players who took part in the Showcase went on to be signed by NBA teams during the 2009-10 season”.

It's Official! – Maine Red Claws Announce NBA Affiliations

RedClawsYou knew it was coming, and thankfully the Maine Red Claws, the new NBA Development League (D-League) team based here in Portland has finally announced the team will be affiliated with two parent clubs, the Boston Celtics and the Charlotte Bobcats of the National Basketball Association (NBA).

Great news for one as fans will be able to enjoy the development of young prospects with hopes of joining the home town favorite Boston Celtics, and the possibility that certain players with the parent club now can be sent to work on their skills in Portland with the Maine Red Claws throughout the long NBA 82 game season (the D-League plays 48 games).

Also, the Charlotte Bobcats being a fairly new team in the NBA, have a rather young team and continue to draft young talent to develop, which should be great for the fans here in Portland. Both the Celtics and the Bobcats have great management, coaching, and former NBA stars working on the staffs of these teams in Michael Jordan, Doc Rivers, and Danny Ainge to name a few. Word has it that you might just happen to see one of them, or a former Boston Celtics great at an upcoming game this season. Keep your eyes and ears tuned as the inaugural season for the Maine Red Claws promises to be one to remember!
