Maine Red Claws 2010 Season Opener Friday night

The Maine Red Claws, the NBA D-League affiliate of the Boston Celtics and Charlotte Bobcats, will open up the 2010-2011 season at home at the Portland Expo this Friday, November 19, 2010, at 7pm. There are still tickets available, though you’ll want to act quick as EVERY home game last year during their inaugural season was a sell out.

The Red Claws will take on the Austin Toros (baby brothers to the San Antonio Spurs of the NBA) for a two game weekend series with another game on Saturday, November 20. The home opener promises to be a real entertainer as the Rim Rockers, a slam dunk team who has entertained many NBA crowds will make a half time appearance. Yes, and the Lady Red Claws Dance Team is back as well folks…

Fans should also note that they’ll receive a rally towel thanks to The Law Offices of Joe Bornstein to help stir up some excitement in the Portland Expo. Careful where you swing the towel or someone may end up calling 1-800-CALL-JOE on you after the game.

In all seriousness though, the Maine Red Claws deserve the recognition for bringing professional basketball back to Portland, Maine, and for giving back to the community through many different facets. Hats off to the Maine Red Claws and we wish them all the best.

For more information on the team, please visit Maine Red Claws.com and if you can’t make a game you can always listen to them live on The Big Jab WJAB 96.3FM  and 1440AM.

Maine Red Claws Victorious again before Sellout Crowds

The Maine Red Claws continue their winning ways in Portland as they moved to 10-3 overall (2nd in the East Conference) with two wins at home this week before sellout crowds at the Portland Expo. Thursday afternoon, the Red Claws led by Darnell Lazare’s 17 points bested the East Conference leader Iowa Energy 95-88. The energy was high, as both teams raced up and down the court throughout the game and dished out a number of impressive fast breaks and dunks for the fans.

Fans were not to be disappointed with Friday’s show either, as the Maine Red Claws had five players in double figures and outdistanced the Erie Bayhawks 94-86. Alexi Ajinca (property of the Charlotte Bobcats) led the way for the Red Claws with 19 points, 14 rebounds, and 5 blocks.

Next the Red Claws will participate in the 2010 NBA D-League Showcase January 4-7th in Boise, Idaho, where they will face the Los Angeles D-Fenders and the Sioux Falls Skyforce. The Showcase offers all 16 NBA D-League teams the opportunity to play two games in front of NBA scouts, general managers, and front-office personnel. According to the NBA Development League website, “last season 11 different players who took part in the Showcase went on to be signed by NBA teams during the 2009-10 season”.

Maine Red Claws News and Updates

ClawForceOneWell we’re exactly 100 days from Opening Night for the Maine Red Claws and from what I hear the fans are anxious for the season to begin. Who could blame them with all that the Maine Red Claws staff have done to keep up the buzz over the past few months and all that they have in store prior to opening night and throughout the inaugural season.

Just announced – the Red Claws will host their 2nd Pick-A-Seat Promotion which will encompass the entire Labor Day weekend at the Portland Expo from Friday, September 4, through Sunday, September 6, each day from 10am to 3pm. Season ticket holders can once again come take a peek at their seats, while fans who have yet to purchase tickets can “try them out” before they purchase their seat. Back by popular demand, the Red Claws will also gives fans another crack at making a half court shot for a chance to win a free season ticket.

You may remember the Red Claws announced tryouts down in the Charlotte, NC area, well now those skilled players in the Northeast will get their shot with the Northeast Maine Red Claws tryouts at UMass-Boston on October 3, 2009. More details to follow shortly….we’ll keep you posted.

Anyone spotted “Claw Force One” (pictured above), the new Maine Red Claws van that will transport players, as well as make charitable appearances and stops around Maine. Hopefully there is plenty of leg room for those tall guys!!

I also understand the Maine Red Claws Dance Team will continue to make appearances around Portland with a showcase event on October 4 in Lewiston for The Dempsey Challenge: A Journey for Hope, which promises to be a phenomenal event.

That’s all for now….Go Red Claws!

Maine Red Claws Team with UNUM – Shooting Stars

RedClawsLogoToday the Maine Red Claws announced a partnership with UNUM to deliver tickets to local children and provide them with the opportunity to see all of the Maine Red Claws home games in Portland. Through the UNUM Shooting Stars program, 75 tickets per game will be distributed to area schools and non-profit organizations to attend the basketball games.

Hats off to the Maine Red Claws and UNUM for continuing to show their support of the local community and providing opportunities to children.

Pick-A-Seat Day – The Maine Red Claws are also pleased to announce a very interesting promotional experience for their fans through the Pick-A-Seat Day. On Saturday, July 11, from 11am to 3pm at the Portland Expo, fans will get a sneak peek at the new parquet floor, while season ticket holders will be able to check out their new seats for the upcoming 2009-2010 season. The Maine Red Claws will also allow fans who have not yet purchased season tickets to “try it before you buy it” and hopefully convince some more fans to join the fun and excitement of being a season ticket holder. Now for the best part…among the fun and games that will take place Saturday, fans will have the opportunity to sink a half court shot to win a Red Claws season ticket. A great promotional idea…we’ll likely see a few winners there (unless the ball is weighed or there is some other trick like a blindfold).RedClawsCourt

Further, on Thursday, July 23, season ticket holders will have the chance to attend the premier of nationally recognized sports broadcaster Dick Enberg’s one-man play “McGuire” at the Portland Stage Company and attend a post-show cocktail party hosted by the famous guest of the Maine Red Claws.

With all of the pre-season excitement surrounding the Red Claws the 2009-2010 inaugural season should be memorable. Keep your eyes here for future events, opportunities, and appearances related to the Maine Red Claws.

Enjoy!!
