The Dempsey Challenge is back for a second year after such an overwhelming response last year and they have expanded the challenge to two days to accommodate more participants. Beginning, Saturday, October 2, participants will be able to take part in a 5k and 10k Run/Walk, followed by an opportunity on Sunday, October 3, to participate in a 10, 25, 50, or 100 mile bicycle tour.
Registration will be capped at 4,000 for the running and walking, and 3,500 for the bicycle events. Registration is $35 for the 5K and 10K Run/Walk and $75 for cycling. If participants wish to do both a run and a cycle event then registration is $100.
The event, presented by Amgen, is the main fundraiser for The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing at Central Maine Medical Center. In order to participate in the Dempsey Challenge, registrants must meet a minimum fundraising requirement of $150 for anyone 18 and over.

Sunday, October 4, beginning at Simard-Payne Police Memorial Park in Lewiston, 3,500 registered cyclists, runners, and walkers will participate at various distances in The Dempsey Challenge, a wonderful charitable event in Lewiston-Auburn, Maine. Registration is currently closed at the cap of 3,500 entrants in the biking, running, and walking events, however, they are still accepting “virtual riders” who can still raise funds. The Dempsey Challenge fundraiser will benefit The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing, the brainchild of the Hollywood actor and Lewiston, Maine native, who knows personally how support and care giving services can directly impact the healing of cancer patients, as his mother is a four-time ovarian cancer survivor.
