Maine Red Claws to Unveil New Uniforms

thumbnailCAMDPOKUOn Thursday August 13, at 12:45pm, the Maine Red Claws will unveil their new uniforms in grand fashion at Bell Buoy Park in Portland.

The marketing by the Maine Red Claws again will receive great attention which will continue with the unveiling of the uniforms as they arrive in style to the Portland waterfront at 72 Commercial Street (next to RiRa’s) via a genuine Maine Lobster Boat courtesy of the folks at Catch A Piece of Maine. You may remember not too long ago, John and Brendan Ready of Catch A Piece of Maine, were the recipients of the Small Business Administrations National Young Entrepreneurs of the Year Award, honored in Washington, DC.

On top of the clever arrival of the uniforms to the waterfront via lobster boat, the jerseys and shorts will be modeled by former Maine High School and College standouts. A great opportunity to recognize the strength of basketball in Maine, the passion for following hoops, and to give back to the local community.

Hats off to the Maine Red Claws for supporting the local community and making it about the fans who buy the tickets….

Maine Red Claws Team with UNUM – Shooting Stars

RedClawsLogoToday the Maine Red Claws announced a partnership with UNUM to deliver tickets to local children and provide them with the opportunity to see all of the Maine Red Claws home games in Portland. Through the UNUM Shooting Stars program, 75 tickets per game will be distributed to area schools and non-profit organizations to attend the basketball games.

Hats off to the Maine Red Claws and UNUM for continuing to show their support of the local community and providing opportunities to children.

Pick-A-Seat Day – The Maine Red Claws are also pleased to announce a very interesting promotional experience for their fans through the Pick-A-Seat Day. On Saturday, July 11, from 11am to 3pm at the Portland Expo, fans will get a sneak peek at the new parquet floor, while season ticket holders will be able to check out their new seats for the upcoming 2009-2010 season. The Maine Red Claws will also allow fans who have not yet purchased season tickets to “try it before you buy it” and hopefully convince some more fans to join the fun and excitement of being a season ticket holder. Now for the best part…among the fun and games that will take place Saturday, fans will have the opportunity to sink a half court shot to win a Red Claws season ticket. A great promotional idea…we’ll likely see a few winners there (unless the ball is weighed or there is some other trick like a blindfold).RedClawsCourt

Further, on Thursday, July 23, season ticket holders will have the chance to attend the premier of nationally recognized sports broadcaster Dick Enberg’s one-man play “McGuire” at the Portland Stage Company and attend a post-show cocktail party hosted by the famous guest of the Maine Red Claws.

With all of the pre-season excitement surrounding the Red Claws the 2009-2010 inaugural season should be memorable. Keep your eyes here for future events, opportunities, and appearances related to the Maine Red Claws.

Enjoy!!

It's Official! – Maine Red Claws Announce NBA Affiliations

RedClawsYou knew it was coming, and thankfully the Maine Red Claws, the new NBA Development League (D-League) team based here in Portland has finally announced the team will be affiliated with two parent clubs, the Boston Celtics and the Charlotte Bobcats of the National Basketball Association (NBA).

Great news for one as fans will be able to enjoy the development of young prospects with hopes of joining the home town favorite Boston Celtics, and the possibility that certain players with the parent club now can be sent to work on their skills in Portland with the Maine Red Claws throughout the long NBA 82 game season (the D-League plays 48 games).

Also, the Charlotte Bobcats being a fairly new team in the NBA, have a rather young team and continue to draft young talent to develop, which should be great for the fans here in Portland. Both the Celtics and the Bobcats have great management, coaching, and former NBA stars working on the staffs of these teams in Michael Jordan, Doc Rivers, and Danny Ainge to name a few. Word has it that you might just happen to see one of them, or a former Boston Celtics great at an upcoming game this season. Keep your eyes and ears tuned as the inaugural season for the Maine Red Claws promises to be one to remember!

Sports Enthusiasm – Seadogs, Pirates, Maineiacs, RedClaws

Lacking a major league level sports team has not kept us from enjoying professional sports here in Portland, Maine. From the early years of the Maine Mariners, Portland Windjammers, and Maine Guides, Portland sports fans have always enjoyed athletics and the success of local Mainers while traditionally maintaining loyalty to the Boston area pro sports teams. Thanks to our love of sports, the fans in the area have witnessed a flurry of great athletes play in the Greater Portland area thanks to the Portland Seadogs, Portland Pirates, and Lewiston Maineiacs, and the visiting opponents. Sidney Crosby, David Ortiz, Josh Beckett, Dustin Pedroia, Jonathan Papelbon, Kevin Youkilis, and various other athletes have spent time in Portland and amazed the great fans and athletic enthusiasts who may not always get down to Fenway Park, The Garden, or Gillette Stadium to enjoy a game.

The Stanley Cup even visited Portland in 2007, as the Anaheim Mighty Ducks, the one-time parent franchise of the Portland Pirates, hoisted the trophy in the NHL and recognized Portland’s efforts in helping them bring home the Cup with a number of former Pirates on the championship team. Cheers to Portland, the sports fans of Maine for supporting their teams and continuing the opportunity to see sports live at such a high level of play. http://www.portlandpirates.com, http://www.portlandseadogs.com , http://www.lewistonhockey.com

Portland recently added a NBA Development League Franchise named the “Maine Red Claws” for the 2009-2010 season. What another great opportunity for Maine basketball fans to see players affiliated with NBA teams play and develop before our eyes and hopefully one day suit up in the NBA. You know the D-League as it’s referred to produced 15 percent of the rosters of the 2007-2008 season. For more information on the new Maine team check out http://www.nbamaine.com
