March of Dimes Benefit – Wednesday, October 12 @ DiMillo’s on the Water

The Maine Chapter of the March of Dimes presents the 11th Annual Greater Portland Signature Chef’s Auction at DiMillo’s on the Water (25 Long Wharf, Portland), Wednesday, October 12, beginning at 5:30pm. Typically a very well-attended event, the Signature Chefs Auction will be hosted by WSCH6′s Cindy Williams. 

This fabulous event will feature culinary creations from Greater Portland chefs from DiMillo’s, Nosh Kitchen Bar, The Salt Exchange, Figa, Zapoteca, The Porthole, and Hannaford. You’ll enjoy wonderful wines paired with each food item.

The event will feature a number of great packages available for bid through a silent auction, as well as culinary auction packages in a live auction format.  Local sponsors include; Wright Express, ProSearch, Martin’s Point Health Care, Native Maine Produce, Living Wealth Partners, and Maine Magazine.

One hundred percent of funds raised will directly serve the March of Dimes and their mission to help moms have full-term pregnancies and fund research to solve the problems that threaten the health of babies. The Maine Chapter of the March of Dimes funds over $600,000 in research, local community grants, NICU Family Support at Maine Medical Center, and education projects across the state.

Google's Dan Reicher to Visit Portland

GoogleGoogle and the clean energy ideas and technologies of tomorrow will be the key topic of the National Resources Council of Maine (NRCM) Annual Meeting on Wednesday, October 7, at Hannaford Hall on the University of Southern Maine Portland Campus.

Featured and keynote speaker, Dan Reicher, Director of Climate Change and Energy Initiatives at Google, will deliver his thoughts and Google’s strategy and vision on cleaner energy and how they predict it will create jobs, cut energy costs, and improve our well-being in many facets. Prior to his position with Google, Mr. Reicher was Assistant Secretary at the US Department of Energy, and is considered one of the leading clean energy experts.

The event will begin with a reception at 6:30pm followed by Mr. Reicher’s presentation at 7:30pm, which is free and open to the public. You may want to RSVP for the event, which can be done via the NRCM’s website – HERE

"Got Milk?" Campaign Takes on Portland!

got-milk1From July 30 through August 2, the National “got milk?” Milk Mustache Mobile Drink Well Live Well Tour will land here in Portland, Maine, and host a number of free events to encourage residents to live well.

The great events are open to all ages with the opportunity to pose for a Milk Mustache photo like the many celebrities who have been featured in the popular advertisements. Further, there will be ice-cold milk and freshly made smoothies for all to enjoy.

The events will feature a “Wellness Oasis”, where attendees will be given tips on how to achieve wellness and balance in their lives, and have the opportunity to meet with a registered dietician for a health screening, or relax with a five-minute chair massage from a licensed massage therapist.
