A Totally RAD Night in Portland – Amy St. Laurent Foundation Fundraiser – Friday, September 23, 2011

The Amy St. Laurent Foundation will host a local fundraiser “A Totally R.A.D. Night” at the Italian Heritage Center, 40 Westland Avenue, Portland, on Friday, September 23, beginning at 7pm.

The event is a wonderful fundraiser for a great cause – The Amy St. Laurent Foundation which among other things underwrites the Portland Police Department’s Rape Agression Defense (R.A.D.) training class.

In addition to a silent auction, attendees will enjoy music from The Time Pilots and refreshments, along with a 1980′s theme for the event. Tickets are only $25 and support the RAD program, which continues to serve as a life changing event for many women who have taken the class. Right now, the class is offered several times a year, however, there is a demand for more.

Rape Aggression Defense Training in Portland

Women of Greater Portland, ages 13 and older, will be offered the opportunity by the Portland Police Department to participate in a Rape Aggression Defense training course this February. The classes will teach women basic self defense skills to help them protect themselves from dangerous situations. The five part class is scheduled for February 2, 4, 9, and 11 from 6 to 9pm, and for February 13 from 8am-12pm, at the Portland Police Department at 109 Middle Street.

A suggested donation of $25 will support the Amy St. Laurent Fund, which sponsors R.A.D. trainings throughout the area. For more information, please call 874-8643, or email ppdrad@portlandmaine.gov.
