Peloton Speaks tonight in Portland ft Spose/Luke Livingston! 1/21/15

Peloton Speaks

Peloton Speaks

A new business themed event has sprung up in Portland!  It began last month in a city that seems to have so many great options for business owners and entrepreneurs to network and meet one another.  The monthly event takes place at Peloton Labs and is put on by Katalyst and Dream Local Digital as part of the collaboration series.

The event however is unique in a sense that it encourages those who attend to really be honest about their business and their fears.  The first event featured some well known business owners like Chris Avantaggio of LiveME and Emily Straubel of The Red Lipstick Project.  They told their stories of taking a leap, and facing fear.  The event then allows the audience to ask questions and three audience members are drawn at random for those who want to speak.  These attendees tell their story and get instant audience feedback.

This month’s theme is:  Getting through tough times.  The event will feature Maine hip hop artist Spose, Baxter Brewing founder Luke Livingston and Peloton’s founder Liz Trice.  These three featured guests will tell their stories in a very honest environment.  The event features Beer with from Baxter Brewing, food from Slab Sicilian Street Food and music by Dj Mosart.  A unique atmosphere to network and here some great guests tell their stories.  Come check out Peloton Speaks tonight 6-8pm at 795 Congress St at Peloton Labs.

When:  January 21, 2015

Time: 6-8PM

Tickets are available online at until 4pm at:

Then at the door for $8.  Ticket includes admission and Beer and Food!

Keep The Soul of Portland in The Portland Company: Support Thoughtful Development – Thursday, January 8

On Thursday, January 8, 2015, at 7pm, a group “Keep the Soul of Portland in the Portland Company” is arranging a meeting with City of Portland Planners to discuss and review the proposed Portland Company Development, on the Portland Company Complex 10 acre waterfront site. The meeting will be held at the East End Community School in the cafeteria on 195 North Street in Portland.

City Planners Alex Jaegerman and Christine Grimando will present the proposal and be available for questions, answers, and discussion. Later in January, the developer will go before the Planning Board for a third workshop regarding their interest in a proposed zoning change.

Keep the Soul of Portland in the Portland Company is encouraging the developer to incorporate into the process and into the product the best of the authentic Portland, Maine that we know and love. They’re asking for and believe it’s most appropriate for the proposed development to go through review process as a contract zone under the existing Waterfront Special Use Zone, rather than the developers request to rezone the property to B-6 with a small component of Eastern Waterfront Port Zone.

Keep the Soul has spread literature throughout the community delivering their message for thoughtful development and encourage the following;

  • Disclosure of the intended development to the public before action is taken on any zone change request.
  • Regulation of heights and massing of new construction in a manner designed to allow reasonable development, but also preserve the neighborhood’s harbor views.
  • Preservation of significant public vistas to and from the water, and continue well-designed physical access to the water through a welcoming public trail system.
  • Celebration of the sites important past and preservation of significant historic structures through their adaptive reuse.
  • If residential use is to be allowed, promotion of lively, year-round occupancy reflective of the diversity of the citizens of Portland, Maine.
  • Preservation of the waterfront for water-dependent uses, provision of meaningful access and upland uses structured so they support waterfront infrastructure.

For more information, or if you wish to learn more and are unable to attend this informative meeting, feel free to connect via email with the group at

But the brick walls, stained glass windows of the Bramhall Pub are still there. The bar now had 12 stools and is on your left when you first walk in. Behind the bar you will find a piece of old slate, that serves as a specials board. You will also find vintage claw-foot bathtubs are filled with ice to chill beer and wine. There are also 14 more seats at tables as well. Uber is in Portland Maine, and in action! Uber is a company based out of California and what this company does is unbelievable! Everyone knows how expensive cabs can be, while Uber can often be half the price, if not even cheaper! All you have to do to get an Uber driver to pick yoimgresu up anywhere within Greater Portland (or areas where Uber services) is just download the app, type in where you are, and where you want to go and an Uber driver that is closest to you will pick you up. But you don’t need to sit there and stare at your phone while you wait for Uber to find the closest one to you. When Uber has found someone close to you they will text you!

And the best part is that you can choose what size vehicle you need. You can choose the Uberx that are everyday cars that normal people drive everyday. You can reserve your own private driver and car on demand, and there are SUVs for those times when you have about 7-10 people with you, as well as luxury cars available if you want to ride in absolute style.

Now if you’re saying “Oh this sounds awesome but how do I pay for it?” well all you have to do in the Uber app is add a credit card you want to use and once you are picked up and have arrived at your destination you are then charged. So no cash needed. Let’s say you want to split your fare with someone, how can you do that? Well all you have to do is invite your friends on the Uber app to split the fare with you and each persons credit card will be charged equally!  No paper involved, your receipt is sent right to your email.imgres-1

If you are now wondering who are these people that are picking me up? I must say I said that same thing the first time I used Uber in Boston. I thought well how do I know that the people I am getting in a car with aren’t going to steal me? Well Uber has thought this whole process out, and the company does a thorough background check of every driver before they allow them to become a driver with Uber.

After experiencing Uber, I can honestly say that it was a safe, fun, inexpensive, and convenient experience and I would continue to utilize the service and app.

With the roll out of the new service in Portland, Maine, your first five rides in Portland are FREE thru October 16, 2014, which includes existing users!
