Two Portland businesses walked away from the 2nd Annual Maine Whoopie Pie Festival up north in Dover-Foxcroft with some hardware and praise for their delicious whoopie pie creations.
Anania’s, a local sandwich shop (Portland and South Portland locations) brought home the accolade of creating the “Best Traditional Whoopie Pie”, while Cranberry Island Kitchen received the honor of “Most Original Whoopie Pie” for their Mexican whoopie pie.
You may have some trouble the next time you turn onto Bolton Street from Congress Street, and could decide to pass up Tony’s Donuts for an Anania’s whoopie pie.
Having picked Cranberry Island Kitchen to make the cake and whoopie pie desserts for my upcoming October 2010 wedding, I know I cannot stop counting down the days to taste their unbelievable creations again. Martha Stewart sure knows her sweets. For more on that story, check out the Cranberry Island Kitchen website
We’ve already marked the calendar for the 3rd Annual Whoopie Pie Festival…
